Modern Art?

Well, now you mention it, no…well yes, gosh this is a bit confusing actually. ‘Margate Modern Art’ is opening up in King Street in the next two weeks by a lovely couple, John and Jane, who have recently moved back to Blighty from France. Who can blame them, decent cup of tea and all that!

They popped into Qing to say hello and explained that Modern Art is by far from contemporary…we are talking 1860 to 1970 (forgive me if I have those dates wrong, I think that is what they said.) Not to be confused with other pieces, from a slightly more recent era. Still not sure? In short if you’re dead, you’re in! Can’t wait to go and have a shifty.

Caribbean Fodder

Mullins Brasserie, formerly No.6, has opened! Hoorah! Advertising themselves as Modern…bit of a theme there, European food with Caribbean dishes they have taken the Old Town by storm and were full to the gills over the weekend. The tasty bites from Antonio’s homeland being the dishes of choice. Open for lunches as well as evenings a great place to come and relax and enjoy some hearty food. And right next to me, I could even phone my order in…umm.

Cup Cake Cafes

No, it is not leaving the square, just moving to bigger premises…right next door! Well done Lisa, fab shop, great coffee and, of course, delicious cakes. There will be a wider choice of food too to be announced to add to their already popular repertoire. So watch this space for the opening date.

Full Steam Ahead

Get yourself down to the Old Town on the 9th October for a chance to see a giant steamroller go over your art! One of the great family friendly workshops that Pushing Print runs for free is held on the Saturday the exhibition opens. Along with that go round Margate Gallery, Marine Studios and The Pie Factory to see the wealth of fantastic prints that artists from as far away as America and Finland have submitted. Qing is holding a fringe exhibition with Prints from the Orient and Margate Harbour Arm is joining in too with The Lupin Garden. Open till 31st October.
