Broadstairs’ favourite pamphlet, the Broadie, is out again. This issue is the ‘big pink one’ – for women by women (or something like that), making it a Thanetian version of Marie Claire.
If you’re not familiar with the Broadie, we strongly recommend you find a copy from somewhere. It’s an intoxicating mix of serious opinions and downright nonsense. Obviously, you’ll have to come to Broadstairs as it isn’t yet shipping to Ramsgate or Margate – and it’s resisting the pull of modern technology by remaining resolutely paper-based.
As with any good publication, you should turn to the letters page first. In most journals, this will usually have one or two classics. With the Broadie, as most of the letters are written by people from Broadstairs, the letters page is completely leftfield. Our particular favourite this week is from ‘name and address withheld’ who writes on the subject of the Save Broadstairs High Street campaign, asking whether many of the businesses need saving. What Broadstairs really needs, says Name Withheld, is a shop where you can buy top twenty CDs.
Yes, that’s right. And somewhere selling Brylcreem and Babycham too.
Buy the Broadie. It’s only 50p for Christ’s sake.

Thanks io from one of the Broadie Broads, It’s taken till issue 14 to get our say.
Mind you we haven’t got it all our own way, you may notice that there is a small but perfectly formed picture of a spitfire in the top right hand corner of the front page. It was too late to do much about that by the time I spotted it but did get the fella responsible to make the inside picture of same plane pink. Also by some strange coincidence this is the issue we start to publish the local rugby fixtures. The battle lines have been drawn.
Girls putting the Broad back into Broadstairs!
I don’t think that’s fair. There are some quite slim girls in Broadstairs too.
watch it io don’t incur girl wroth or we will set you know who on you, be scared be very scared.
More of a US connotation Iseone – sailing a little close to the wind there.
