Family down for the weekend in Ramsgate and I always love showing off the town as though, somehow, I made it – which is a bit weird.
Anyway, it was an easy matter as the place was heaving with lots and lots going on due to the Summer Squall festival. The kids had an absolute ball in King George VI park participating in the Alice in Wonderland performance which had hundreds of children running through trees chasing white rabbits and slaloming through pink flamingos. It was all a bit magical.
We hadn’t booked for the Death in Ramsgate performance but rather wished we had as we joined the other gawkers watching a performance from dry land instead of being on the boat and part of the action. The treasure hunt involved two family teams and clearly ours wasn’t the only family taking it all rather too seriously. Not a participant myself, I sat in the sun watching small children being dragged mercilessly by driven parents heading for the next clue. My lot didn’t stand a chance!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Biscuit Chronicles at the King’s Church Hall on Monday evening – a thoroughly intelligent, funny, piece of theatre about biscuit munching and much more. Why isn’t this place, tucked away in the centre of town, an arts or proper community centre for Ramsgate? Why don’t we have one? Anyway, this was a great new addition to the Ramsgate summer scene with loads to do for everyone and I hope there are more Squalls to come.
