It seems that newspapers do the rounds with different areas. A couple of weeks ago you couldn’t buy a copy of the Guardian without some mention of Broadstairs, Ramsgate or Margate. At the moment, though, it’s the Independent that’s covering the area and following on from yesterday’s name-check of My Old Dutch in the Old Town is a review of the Ambrette in today’s Independent on Sunday.
It’s a very good review so the score of 7/10 seems a bit snippy. But the reviewer at least recognises that Margate is changing, what with the Turner Contemporary, the Old Town, and the boarded-up burnt-out shops (oh no, that’s the old Margate).
It’s a shame that the other restaurants recommended at the end of the article for the area are in Whitstable and Herne Bay. There are enough restaurants in Thanet, like Age and Sons or Eddie Gilberts, to save you a drive to Whitstable. Who needs Whitstable?
