The pen is mightier than the sword. That’s what they say. It’s bollocks of course. The only way a pen is mightier than a sword is if you manage to jab it in the eye of your sword-wielding opponent. Even then, you’d need two pens and a very good aim so a more accurate saying would be Two pens are potentially mightier than the sword if you’re lucky.

Anyhow, with all that clarified, it’s now time to inform you of a Thanet-wide writing competition. We might enter that last paragraph, so watch out. The theme is “This Place I Live”, first prize is £75, and the deadline is August 1. Get your pens out.

    I actually use a sword to write with as I can never find a pen when I need one.
