Finally, after huge investment, endless discussion, and countless arguments, Thanet’s most talked-about building is finally open to the public this week. Yes, that’s right, the Discover Thanet pop-up shop opens its doors at 6pm Friday 15th April. (Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Did you think we meant Turner Contemporary? That’s what we wanted you to think. It was a trick.)

In case you’ve been living in a cave (or you’re just not bothered that much) and you’re wondering what Discover Thanet is, well, imagine if you will, a printed version of IsleOne but with slightly better writers, and slightly nicer graphics, and slightly more listings. And its own shop for God’s sake. That’s the bit that cuts like a knife.

You can find the shop in the Pie Factory in Margate Old Town. No idea what the opening hours are – they’re probably too arty-farty to have them. So pop along, buy a copy, and take the opportunity to spend some time with the authors telling them at length all the places they should have included in the guide and how you could have done it that much better. But do it quickly because it’s only open till Easter Sunday or thereabouts.

Oh yeah, them people over at Turner open their art gallery too this week. But don’t worry, you can buy Discover Thanet in their shop. Should help to bring a few punters in.

  1. Great site, I really like the way it is written. Found you through Margate Old Town on facebook and would be interested in listing our business with you, (Fontaine Decorative). Particularly like Eastcliff Richard’s idea about a £99 Shop!
