Please note: this is an old article which has been recycled “in the public interest”.

How many colours in Margate?

How many cobbles in the Old Town?

How many times has someone suggested an ice rink would have been a better option than the Turner?

All these questions which, presumably, are spinning around people’s heads almost constantly can now be answered in what is surely one of the most innovative, exciting and bonkers arts projects ever in Margate. And that’s up against some pretty stiff competition.

Measuring Margate is running contemporaneously (look it up) with Jenny Wiener’s Measure-ism exhibition at the Pie Factory. Jenny’s work examines how numbers, measures, and quantifications inform and influence our lives. Measuring Margate is an opportunity to take part in the project by submitting your own measurements, whatever they are, to an interactive website that will record and display them.

The Measure-ism exhibition kicks off this weekend on what people are already not calling Turner Weekend. The Measuring Margate site is live now, though you’ll have to wait till the 14th May to start submitting your own measurements. Should give you plenty of time to get counting.

Update: Measure-ism has now closed at the Pie Factory but the Measuring Margate website is live and awaiting your measurements
