Louisa Bay Cafe

Formerly the world-famous Derek’s, the Louisa Bay Cafe is one of Thanet’s hidden gems. Tucked under the clifftop below Victoria Gardens, from the outside it’s a fairly unprepossessing building. But from the inside, well, looks aren’t everything, all right?

In its previous incarnation it was already known for providing the best bacon sandwich in Thanet. Now, with a makeover, new owners, and proper coffee it promises to build on Derek’s reputation with locally sourced ingredients cooked to order. And all on the beach.

Had a cuppa there on Saturday morning a right little sun trap. One thought They should get some cushions for the long concrete seating area would make it more comfortable and welcoming might persuade more people to stop on the way past otherwise good to see it open again good luck to the new owners hope business booms!!

They’re very brave to take over an institution. But think the new owners have what it takes to make it their own. Bacon Sarnies are so part of beach life! Good luck new Louisa Bay Cafe!

  3. Yes, it’s a lovely spot. Had a mug of Earl Grey and some fruit cake there last Saturday. Very civilised ;-)

I have been a fan of Dereks for years and can recomend the bacon and brie its my favourite, but I must also head people to the Kiosk at Botany Bay. Ross (my son-in-law) runs it and he makes a good bacon sarnie. I must say I spend more time at Dereks (to me it will always be Dereks) as I can get down to Louisa Bay on my disability scooter. I wish I could get as good acsess at Botany but I cant so I have to stay on the cliff top and Ross and my wife keep me in Bacon Sarnies, LIFES HARD but someone has gotta do it . Have a great season.

We love Dereks, but only just found out there are new owners. We wish them all the best and please can they continue making the fantastic salad bowls that Derek made…they were so crammed with everything you could wish for in a salad and took ages to eat ! Looking forward to coming and trying one soon x

Derek was a big salad-lover himself

I have just sampled the new Dereks. Fabulous paninis, great quality hamburger, staff very kind and understanding with my 2 year old who has various food allergies and kept visiting to say hello at the height of the lunchtime rush. Easter colouring kept my 4 year happy. Great food, sunshine + happy kids, what more could you ask for?! Will be back again soon!
