Moonbow Jakes Margate

Edit: Note that Moonbow Margate has now closed. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat or drink nearby, you should try Fort’s Cafe.

What is Moonbow Margate?

According to the website, it’s “a temporary cafe performance bar space”. Located at the Cliftonville Lido, Moonbow intend to use live performance and art exhibitions to explore different aspects of the physical, emotional, political and communal change that takes place in an area designated for art-led regeneration. They also do food.

Originally a three month project, Moonbow has been extended through September 2011.

Some people complain that Thanet doesn’t have a Starbucks; we have places like Moonbow Margate instead, where there’s not a frappamochachoccashitflap in sight.

The smashed window doesn’t look inviting. Is this because of the high crime rate in the area? Boredom of the youths? Or is that art?

I’ve never seen a Starbucks with a smashed window. Just saying.

  2. isleone says:

Ant, no one’s interested in your opinion. Just saying.

  3. isleone says:

Oh, and welcome to the site and thanks for posting.

  4. Ant says:

But they are interested in your opinions? What a strange world.

  5. isleone says:

    That’s true.

  6. isleone says:

Anyway, thanks for taking the trouble to contribute. Do you think you might be back?

  7. Ant says:

I might dip in and out. I find some of the writing a little difficult to understand, but do enjoy the pictures.

  8. Hi Ant, all comments are welcome negative or positive. Starbucks do have smashed windows very often when they do not remember to board them up before demos in London and in Bristol’s Park Street the windows are often kicked out a few time a year.

Hope you can come see Cliftonville

The next time Ant comes to Thanet I will escort him personally to Moonbow Margate as I know he will like it.

  10. Ant says:

I will definitely visit Moonbow on my next visit. And I will be more observant of Starbucks window going forward.

    Ant – are you coming?

  14. Ant says:

Unfortunately unable to make this Friday. I’m sure that I’ll be able to catch Bubbleband at another of their gigs.
I notice they haven’t put this one on their website. Is it a secret gig?

  15. Krista Bubble says:

Hey Ant. Nope not a secret gig….just a last minute one. Thanks for reminding me tho ;-)

  16. Liam says:

Love the Mumbo Jumbo. The cracked window is a refined touch of Ciftonville chic.
