Turner Contemporary
In case you didn’t know, Thanet has an art gallery. Describing itself as ‘a dynamic visual arts organisation’, Turner Contemporary is far more than simply an exhibition space. It mounts a number of exhibitions through the year, featuring historical and contemporary art, which are supported by series of temporary exhibitions, events and learning opportunities.
Turner Contemporary is an organisation which extends into the wider community and is seen as a key stimulus for the regeneration of the area. Love it or loathe, whether you think it should have been an ice rink or swimming pool instead, Turner Contemporary’s influence in Thanet is indisputable. Many have criticised its existence – though that didn’t deter 150,000 people from visiting the gallery in the first three months of it opening.
Entrance is free to most events. It has also has an excellent cafe and restaurant.
