Ramsgate Custom House

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Dawn Cole, of Pushing Print fame, is doing an informal Q&A at Nice Things on Thursday 24 February at 11.30am. It’s followed by an optional two course lunch for £9.50 at the Old Custom Coffee House.

Dawn’s print work for the past three years has been made in response to a number of archives and in particular the archive of her Great Aunt Clarice Spratling – a First World War nurse. Reading Between the Lines explores Clarice’s belongings and writings and seeks to bring alive her experiences. Clarice came from a family whose associations with Thanet can be traced back to the 13th century. Her family ancestry includes Adam Spratling who murdered his wife in 1652 and was tried and hanged at Sandwich in 1653.

We’ve all been there.
