Road rage

We take a firmly apolitical line on IsleOne – not for any deep-seated philosophical reasons, just because politics is soooo boring. Unfortunately, however, we have been forced into a strongly worded editorial concerning the latest disgraceful antics from Thanet District Council.

Normally we don’t pass any comment on TDC – unlike other blogs we could mention. As a rule, what the council does is none of the public’s concern. This time, however, they have gone TOO FAR.

Some behemoth in his ivory tower has seen fit to clean up the “Poorhole Lane” road sign. For those of you that don’t know Poorhole Lane, it’s on the left as you leave Westwood Cross heading towards Broadstairs. You may not have noticed it as it’s quite a narrow entrance round the back of the main trading estate. Although, despite it being such a tight fit, it does carry a lot of traffic.

For many years, one of the letters had been whited out creating a ‘whole’ new meaning for the sign. Speaking personally, this made me laugh EVERY SINGLE TIME I drove past, much to the irritation of my wife who lacks my sophisticated sense of humour. Occasionally, in the past, it has been my great pleasure to take a short journey up Poorhole Lane – though this has always been something of a treat, usually reserved for birthdays.

Now, in the face of certain public outrage, it’s had a clean-up. Surely TDC have better things to do with their time than to sit there washing their Poorhole Lane? Not to mention the expense, which would surely have been more wisely spent on an ice rink instead.

We, the editorial team behind IsleOne, demand that Thanet District Council rectify the situation by returning the Poorhole Lane signage to its corrupted version. Else we shall resort to using CAPITAL LETTERS in further posts. Or even exclamation marks. Don’t make us do it, TDC.

Don’t worry Isleone – the lovely sign will very soon be restored to its former glory. This is an ongoing battle between TDC and community – and one which the community usually wins! Keep on trucking!

What a sad day in Thanet history, surely it’s back to normal by now!
