In the heart of Broadstairs Old Town… oh, let’s not start all that again.

Anyway, this is a little peak inside Salon Bohemia, Broadstairs’ most sensuous coffee house. Okay, that’s not saying much. Still, it is more sensuous than the newly opened Victorian Tea Rooms where the serving staff dress in Victorian costumes. Unless, of course, it’s Victorian costumes that really get you going, you filthy beast.

You want to go in don’t you? Well, you’ll have to wait till July. Probably.

(By the way, we shamelessly stole the photo above from Salon Bohemia’s Facebook page. We particularly like how the man in the background seems to be pouring wine into the other man’s ear.)

Looks very cosy. Shouldn’t cafés aim for a blend between comfort and discomfort? See myself ordering a coffee and spending a couple of hours. If they sell alcohol I might combine it with a power snooze too.

  2. isleone says:

I think it’s more of a salon than a cafe. And you would probably be welcome to snooze as powerfully as you liked.

  3. BGD says:

Forgive my unworldliness but what is the difference there?

Does one pay in bon mots as well as sterling?

I can see some of the customers from the past establishment that was there turning up for their steamed steak and kidney pudding, and Daily Express. I’ll have to try to be there to witness that.

  4. isleone says:

I would pay money to see that.

  5. Joe says:

Looks ghastly to me, I don’t tend to like drinking coffee in a dark cave. How about some reviews of Ramsgate’s finest cafes?

  6. isleone says:

We don’t really do reviews as such. Too much like hard work.

  7. A cosy salon setting indeed and why not? A great location to watch the world go by while sipping on coffee and eating crepes or baguette sandwiches…with the added bonus of a nice and cool shady exposure, hence perhaps the cave like comparison! Still, citing Saint-Germain as one of my many influences, I take this as a compliment ;-) …And off course, Jazz will be playing in the background…L’entente cordiale at it’s best…

  8. Pardon my French, *of course* we shall also be serving alcohol if the lincense gets through….Champagne and foie gras will then become ‘the rigueur’ unless you prefer wine and cheese…A perfect social background to mingle amongst other SB members…as the evenings will be a members only event, to preserve its charm and uniqueness…

Just had a sneak preview and can say Salon Bohemia is all gorgeousness. A lovely addition to the old town! Imagine a mixed crew in there, intermingled with some of the fabulous burlesque ladies – just the thing. Cosy opulence more than cave I can assure you!

    Burlesque? In Broadstairs?

  11. Well, who knows…Dickens maybe liked a tassel or two…:-)
Naughty but always nice, I promise…x

  12. christine says:

dull dreary and still not open ! living in the clouds this place will never open or be a success !

  13. isleone says:

Sorry Christine but you’re wrong on all counts. The Salon is definitely open as the IsleOne team enjoyed a drink there last Saturday. And one word you definitely can’t use is dreary – it’s exceptional, there’s no place like it (at least not on this side of the channel). You should give them a call and book a table – it’s an experience.

  14. Salon is open indeed and has been getting a lot of wonderful praises and we could not be any happier.
Thank you to all the wonderful new people that we have met aldready. It is so nice to feel rewarded in our efforts and to be able to share our venture in such a postive way…
    xx Laurence

IM AFRAID I FOUND THIS BAR WHEN FIRST OPEN TO BE EXTREMELY DULL! AND DID NOT LIVE UP TO ITS EXPECTATIONS IN MY VIEW ! THE BAR WAS OPEN FOR A SHORT TIME (A VERY SHORT TIME !) AND THEN REMAINED CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR …..

  16. isleone says:

Okay Christine, thanks for your comments. Not sure of the need for every single letter to be upper case but no doubt it adds validity to your opinion.

  17. Dear Christine, you are more than welcome to take the matter directly to the plumber as following us having experienced some leaks and not having as a result any central heating, it is the reason why we couldnt open as a matter of fact..No need to worry though as we have a huge following of Salon Bohemia enthusiasts who make our business a delightful experience all around. Kindest regards, Lxx

  18. Salon Bohemia says:

Still, i am very flattered by the attention our lovely business generates so thank you for taking the time to voice your opinion ;-) Lxx

  19. christine says:

    lmfao @ that !

  20. Salon Bohemia says:

How very grown up of you Christine!

  21. christine says:

YOU HAVE YOUR OPINION AS I HAVE MINE ,IF MY OPINION DOES NOT SIT WELL WITH YOU THAT ITS TOUGH LUCK BUT I STICK TO WHAT I SAY DULL NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING FOR A BOHEMIAN BAR AT ALL

  22. christine says:

UPPER CASE DOES GET NOTICED THOUGH DOESN’T IT EVEN IF DOES RUB SOME PEOPLE UP THE WRONG WAY ……C’EST LA VIE X

  23. ‘What a wonderful time had at Salon Bohemia’. Reported at breakfast from guests staying this weekend.
What a fantastic addition to the town.. So pleased we have something of quality to offer our guests who expect such high standards. Well done. I look forward to visiting myself soon and enjoying your tasteful (love the colours) beautifully styled rooms.

  24. Laurance Sussex says:

We (my wife and I) are going back to the Salon again next weekend. Our first visit in February was a most pleasant experience, made all the better by Laurence, Michael and Marcella being the perfect hosts. Having two small boys and a dearth of babysitters makes it difficult to get out on a regular basis, we don’t do “Thorley” or pubs packed with underage drinkers. This is an exquisite place to be appreciated.

  25. Laurence says:

Thank you so much , as previously said, we couldn’t be happier with the wonderful people we have met every week and we are most proud also to support our town and offer a different setting and experience appreciated by many.

Our aim is to work with the community and not against it and the fundamental idea is to use our premises as a platform for local people and visitors alike to have a good time and for them to have the opportunity also to use their talent to entertain within our Salon wether in a musical (accoustic only) artistic or literary context.

Belvidere place, thank you so much for sending us your lovely guests also as it is always a treat to meet them too! xx

  26. More fabulous reports from weekend guests… Such a good time was had in Salon Bohemia this weekend.
I was particularly excited to hear of the Magic Circle man…and was so cross I missed him.

  27. laurence says:

No worries, we are planning another evening of close -up Magic very soon, amongst many other things…

PS: Your guests were a delight to be with also ;-)
