qingart at home in the shop
If rumours are true… and when you have various members of the council tell you, passers-by and people in the know, then you tend to think they might be, there was more than snow that stopped the ‘lights’ in Margate… oh, and Westgate too!
Without asking the traders who had put so much into the event planned for Friday 7th December, the parade and turning on of the lights was postponed till Jan 7th (yes, I know, I will get to that later) due to the treacherous conditions. Now, we in the Old Town do not want to see anyone in danger so if that is the way it has to be, so be it. The four exhibitions that were scheduled that night did go ahead though, with artists and businesses alike clearing paths and getting nibbles and hot drinks ready for the brave souls that ventured out that night.
So the parade was cancelled, but the show still went on… in the dark. The lights? Well, let’s just say that the snow did some people a favour. The lights were gone from the room they were being stored in for Margate and taken over to Westgate… where even they did not benefit from them as the starters were all missing and the lights wouldn’t work anyway. So both turnings on ruined by the ‘snow’ *cough*. But like I say, this is just a rumour…
Never mind, at least we can celebrate the parade.. .in January. No, not on Twelfth Night, no. When most of the shops are closed, decorations down and no one has any reason to come out. January 7th!
I know I will be there… but will you?
