Any time the beautiful Isle of Thanet gets a mention in the national press, we like to flag it on IsleOne, partly because we think it’s important to acknowledge when the outside world has something nice to say about Thanet and partly because it saves us finding original stories ourselves.
Following praise for retro holidays in Broadstairs from the Guardian and general bigging up for Thanet from the Telegraph, today Margate Old Town is pinpointed by the Independent for its vintage and specialist clothing shops. In an article on the current popularity of vintage clothing, we hear from a couple who recommend My Old Dutch for all your vintage clothing needs.
With Madame Popoff Vintage also just opened in the Old Town, and 20th Century Frocks, plus great retro homeware shops like Helter Skelter and Etcetera, Margate is becoming a mecca for vintage and authentic retro goods.
Retro is the future.

Margate Old Town is becoming a mecca for unique & alternative, not necessarily vintage. Behind the scenes ideas are materializing and waiting to happen. Creativity is not yet at its peak. It really is a case of watch-this-space.
Tell us what you know, Wanda.
That picture brings back memories, the old Police station and court house, just to the right of the picture was where I was born,5 Market Place, happy days.
I am pleased to hear that Margate is a Mecca for the unique and alternative, long may it continue.
Any more pics of the old part of Margate ?
Market Place in particular.

Many thanks for that,I have a deep affinity with Margate,I was born at 5 Market Place, which is above the now Cup Cake Cafe,I believe it was refurbished and renamed Pineapple House.
I’m often looking for news about Margate, but don’t wish to be a nostalgic bore.
Best regards,
Pete.
